Our Minister Alparslan Bayraktar Visits the Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform
On September 17, 2026, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar visited TPAO’s Filyos Onshore Facilities. At the Filyos Maintenance Center, he was briefed on ongoing activities by TPAO CEO Cem Erdem, TP-OTC CEO Uğur Karakaş, and senior officials. He then inspected the Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform, where reactivation preparations are underway.
Minister Bayraktar announced that the Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform is scheduled to depart for its operational location in the Black Sea by the end of October. "By the end of this year, we will flare the first gas at the flare stack, thereby completing the second phase of the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea," he said.
Recalling that the Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform was towed through the Bosphorus to Filyos on 29 May 2025, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in attendance, and that its reactivation process subsequently began in Filyos, Minister Bayraktar noted that the platform marks the second phase of production at the Sakarya Gas Field.
"In the first phase, we produced enough natural gas through our onshore facilities to meet the needs of approximately 4 million households, and this production continues today. In the second phase, we will produce an additional 10 million cubic meters of gas per day on this floating production platform, enough to meet the natural gas needs of another 4 million households. Therefore, we will be able to meet the needs of 8 million households with our own gas," he said.
Minister Bayraktar also stated that a sister platform to the Osman Gazi is expected to arrive in Türkiye in 2028, increasing production fourfold. "Our work toward this goal is already underway," he added.
Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform in Figures
Approximately 7,000 people are working on the project.
It is currently Türkiye's largest construction site.
Although described as a "Floating Production Platform", it is essentially a large-scale industrial facility comprising 21 separate processing units.
Approximately 6 kilometers of cabling are installed each day.
The facility contains 642 kilometers of electrical cabling.
By the time the project is complete, nearly 30 kilometers of piping will have been installed.
At current gas prices, the gas produced by Osman Gazi each day will be estimated to be worth approximately USD 10 million.
The Floating Production Platform is expected to contribute about USD 3.5 billion annually to Türkiye's economy.
